the 2004 alexander mcqueen show ‘deliverance’ has a lot of things going for it. first off the clothes are the lead….men with dance numbers pinned to their backs, women kicking down the runway in diamond encrusted jumpsuits dressed down with tshirts stuffed under, cocktail dresses, pinks, tans, distressed denim, all of that. its also choreographed by michael clark- a british choreographer and dancer.

but what has got me going back and back to it these past couple of months is the story. the collection was inspired by the 1969 drama ‘They Shoot Horses Don’t They’, starring Jane Fonda. the film is set in the great depression era and looks at a group of aspiring artists and people desperate for money, who are picked to enter a contest where components are forced to dance for days on end until the last couple is left standing. the competition is performed as a form of entertainment for the crowd, but is more just a form of torture to make others feel better about themselves and their lives.

now that i am at the end of the year i am grateful for all the work that i have made this year but i also cant help but think dam when does work end? does it end? hmm, the truth is probably not. and i know i should be happy about that but some days it feels like being put on a hamster wheel to get the minimum………anyways onto another fruitful year of surprises and more beautiful clothes
